Volunteer Roles
Many volunteers are needed for a successful meet. See below for brief descriptions:
Starter: requires training, calls out and starts each event. Calls false starts.
Assistant Starter: requires training, keeps track of event and heat
Head Timer: Oversees all times, informs starter when timers are ready, keeps extra stopwatch in case of stopwatch failure
Timer: 2 timers per lane during meet
Stroke and Turn Judge: requires training, serves on the pool deck during meets to ensure legal stroke technique
Runner: Collects times from timers to bring to scorekeeper. Wear your tennis shoes.
Scorekeeper: training required, enters meet results into computer system. Indoor role and allows sitting from duration of the meet
Assistant Scorekeeper: assists scorekeeper. Indoor roles and allows sitting for duration of the meet
Ribbon Writer: Labels and organizes ribbons based on results
Clerk of Course: Gets swimmers into correct order behind the blocks. Can combine events to keep meet running swiftly.
Assistant Clerk of Course: Assists clerk of course to keep swimmers in correct order for events
Tent Parent: Work with an assistant coach to monitor swimmers in tents and get them to clerk of course for their events
Set up: Be at Lake Ridge Pool by 3 pm on meet days to set up the pool deck
Parking: Set up parking signs between 12 and 1 on meet days. Direct visiting teams to park. Pick up signs at 8 pm. This requirement is on THREE dates and should be the same 4 people.
Concessions: Serve food, handle money during the meet
